In September, Matt, Gabe and I will do a bike tour from Seattle to San Fran. It might be the last long hangout we have. We'll ride about 50 miles a day and camp by night.
To prepare, we bought touring bikes and have been riding a lot. Tonight, Matt and I are doing a trial camping trip in Miles Standish State Park. Setting up camp was incredibly easy. Dealing with the oppressive humidity was the hard part. Neither of us wanted to stay in our tents when a sudden shower flew over. It was like cooking yourself in a foil wrap.
We had trouble firing up the stove with the waterproof matches. They're waterproof but seemingly ignition resistant. Matt is terrified of gas burners, and I can't blame him.
Unzipping myself out of the bivy to look up at the sky is honestly quite an experience, but it's going to take a lot more of those moments to make me come around on camping. In the mean time, I'll be sweating viciously onto every surface around me.
